As you can see from the pic, Kim is pretty fit to begin with. But like most women, she is not satisfied with with her body and is looking for change. Is P90X the key?
Forward
Everyone, let me introduce you to one of the bravest women I have ever met, Kim Chamberlin. Why is she so brave, you ask? Because anyone who is willing to put themself out there like Kim is willing to do for the betterment of the motocross community is brave. Along with reporting her results and telling us first hand how the P90X program works from inside the trenches, she will also reveal some very private and personal information about herself; height, weight, percent body fat, body measurements, and anything else I think we need to know.

You may have noticed Kim from the Inspiration pics presented here on Virtual Trainer. She is the official GetDirtyMX.com Girl and a writer for one of the coolest digital magazines, MXAffiliate.com. So to say she is into motocross is an understatement for sure. This whole process started when Kim asked me for some advice about her training program. She was training hard, but her results had plateaued. Her goals are simple; to get in better shape and lose a little weight. Like most people, Kim was working on a shoe string budget, could not afford a personal trainer and with a little boy at home, her gym time was limited. I helped her as much as I could over the phone, modifying her diet and offering advice on what type of training I thought she should do, but like many people training on their own, Kim grew frustrated.....and fast!

Being a trainer and having trained many clients over the years, I have never followed a program like P90X. My routines are always specific to the client whether it's a motocross athlete, weight loss client or just for myself. Since all I could offer Kim was some inspirational pep talks over the phone, I knew she needed a more structured program. I have always wanted to take a person like Kim and follow them through a program like P90X. P90X is the perfect fit for Kim and we will see soon enough if Kim is the right fit for P90X.

Some of the questions we will attempt to answer:

  1. Is P90X right for the MX athelete?
  2. Is the program sustainable for the average person?
  3. Is the program good for weight loss?
  4. How much discipline does it take to follow a program 6 days per week?
  5. Can the program really be done in your living room?

Here is Kim to explain in her own words how she got tied up in this mess!

P90X - The Day Before I Start!
I am about to embark on the journey of training with P90X. It wasn't planned, believe me!!! Who would want to put themselves through this program?!?!... Not me let me tell you! Being a model in the motocross industry is fun ...but hitting a plateau and not being able to lose any weight is not!

I have always been very active; I love to run, play tennis, play basketball, exercise (especially cardio) and so many other things. But as far as a strict training program, I have only been training hard and regimented for about 4 months. Yes, that's right only 4 months. And, my body has not changed at all. My body weight hasn't changed and yes I know that muscle weighs more than fat and it just could be converting. But my body fat percentage has not changed at all which is very frustrating for me!

P90X was mentioned to me by Tim the trainer here at Racer X Virtual Trainer, who has been helping to motivate me for the past few months. We had a long talk the other day and he said, "Kim, I want you to try P90X and blog the whole process for me. I want you to do this because I know you are crazy enough to do this!" When I asked him what he meant, he said "you are obsessed with fitness and I know you can handle it!"  So, me crazy enough?!  I guess so because here I go!

My weight is in the normal range for my height, so its not that I am overweight. My pant size is a size 2 sometimes 4 depending on the pant, which I also can not complain about. What I want out of this, is to have nice defined muscles and a killer set of abs! Not to forget the most important part, I had my body fat percentage done a few weeks ago and that needs to drop drastically!

Over the next 90 days, look for updates from me... right here on Racer X VT! I will be blogging the following; Times I trained, How I felt, What I ate, How much sleep I am getting, Morning Resting Heart Rates, my body measurements and as well as having my body fat percentage checked once a month.

You can also follow me on Twitter @KimChamberlin for updates!

Here are my stats for today (Day 1 of P90X):
Height: 5'5
Weight: 133
Percent Body Fat: 32%
Bust: 36
Arms: 10 1/2
Waist: 27
Hips: 36
Thighs: 20 1/2

Wish me luck...!  I am going to need it!

I just started p90x myself. I made it through week one and part of two then got a pretty bad cold. I started over this week from the beginning. I LOVE IT ! The hardest part for me is following the diet plan. Trying to eat new stuff is nice and surprisingly good. I feel hungry at times though and denying my sweet tooth sucks. I think the program is great because it works on flexibility, agility and strength.

It took a while, but I finally found the right person to do the review and actually stick with it for 90 days.

Hi Kim! Take a measurement of your chest (not bust, measure right under where your bra goes around your chest), that way you'll track what's happening on your back and ribs better--losing fat and building muscle. Bust measurement adds in your cup size, and while that's pretty interesting for SOME people (haha) it "gets in the way" of tracking progress. Good luck!

P90X is like having your own personal trainer - in your own home 6 day's per week. I completed 90 day's and started over - now on week 3 of the second round and am absolutely ripped and in the best shape of my life. I just started riding again after a year and a half lay off and other than my arms pumping a little - feel great on the bike. P90X is the ultimate fitness solution for dummies- tells you when to workout- how to workout and what to do. When to eat, what to eat and how to eat. You follow it for 90 days( I did to the letter) and when you look in the mirror you wont recognize the person looking back at ya.

I have been on P90X for the last Nov 09. I started at 194lbs and now I am 178lbs, my strength and stamina have not been like this since I wrestled in high school. People who use to be faster than me are not any more, lol. In fact I fell in the second moto of my Loretta Lynn's qualifier and was able to get up and get the bike started before the guys behind me caught up, which took at least 30 seconds. Also, the stronger and more flexible you are the less likely and vulnerable you are to get injured. And I don't suffer from arm pump either.

P90X is a great workout! You really just need to stick with it, which sometimes it is hard, but in the end it will all be worth it. When I first started, I was using pretty heavy weights and everything was good, but i suffered from really bad arm pump. I reccomend lighter weights with more reps for motocross. Helps out a lot!

Very cool, Tyler. But remember, there is a time and place for heavy weights when training for motocross. Don't blame all of your arm pump issues on heavy lifting.
