P90X Week1 Update

by Tim Crytser

The P90X nutrition plan is definitely set up for the weight loss client. If I were an athlete and my goal was to increase athletic performance, I would stick to the third phase (Endurance Maximizer) of the nutrition guide.

Well guess what?!... I am still alive, I made it through week one, and I can't believe I am here to report it to you guys! That my friends... is a huge accomplishment! I don't know how, but I am! Week one was a blast! First off, let me clarify "a blast": The workouts... so fun, thoroughly enjoyed pushing myself and I feel great! The diet, yah not so much!

Who to Thank
Okay, so first off I need to thank a few people for getting me through week one!  Tim here at Racer X VT for being on call 24/7 for support, amazing!!!  Coach Seiji (www.coachseiji.com) for the help and going over the program with me, incredible!!! Todd Alan and the whole crew at Primer Radio (www.primerradio.com) for all the shout outs and check in calls to see how I am doing, unbelievable!!! Kevin, Sam and Liz for motivating me non stop to keep pushing!!! Last but not least... Amanda the Nutrionist; she totally saved my day and the next 90 days by helping me put together a P90X structured 90 diet plan for myself!!!!  Jason at Hot Hedz Designs, his support never ends and is greatly appreciated!  And everyone else for your words of encouragements!!!  Yup... its a thank you speech, like I won the Grammy's except I only completed week 1 of P90X!!!  It was so much needed though, completely switching my diet habits made me grouchy and tired... not even tired.  Tired is an understatement!!!

The Diet
Let's see what else, oh! The diet! I must be honest, I had a mid week "crisis", changing my diet has been terrible terrible terrible! Doesn't bother me sticking to the diet, but oh my I was draggin! So tired! I was so moody because I was tired, I was hungry and I hate to admit it but I guess I was extremely addicted to carbs. And not even bad stuff, I am not a junk food person. But Level One, Phase One of the Diet lets you have one "carb" item a day. Which was my oatmeal for breakfast and that was all! If I ate the oatmeal for breakfast I was unable to have any whole wheat bread, or whole wheat or wild rice or anything like that the rest of the day! So what I did, was I switched to a Peanut Butter Power Bar for breakfast because I am addicted to them anyways then I could have rice with my dinner! I didn't realize that my body was so addicted to that stuff, that not having it I would actually have withdrawals and be tired and moody. And that is where my "crisis" came into play! I got so mad at myself for letting the simplest things such as carbs take over my life and let me become addicted to them! I couldn't believe it! I felt as if I let myself down. Wednesday and Thursday I think were the worst, and then life got easier and easier after that! (Thank You God!)

Body Fat Analysis
Wednesday I had another Body Fat Percent test done. And only because we wanted to get a more accurate reading for the Pre P90X measurements! I had the Caliper test done, and that indicated my body fat percentage was 32%. I had another reading done and it said 25%. We were so unsure and like I said, we wanted an accurate reading for this challenge so I had a Dexa Scan done. It was pretty interesting stuff. I went to the gym and laid down on a bed and it actually scanned my whole body... good news is; its 100% accurate. They calibrate it before every use. Bad news is.... it said my body fat was 37%. The lady that conducted the test could not believe that, thats what my percent was. And to be honest with you I was floored. So upset, didn't help my already cranky mood! But thanks to my support system I got through!

I really feel like this will be an excellent program for me! And I only WISH I could fast forward through the 90 days... not to cheat out of the workouts because I am actually in love with them! But to see my results!!! I am sure they will be good!

So far... P90X gets 2 thumbs up from me!!! Can't wait for the rest!!! BRING IT!

The first phase is designed to kick start your metabolism and I agree, probably not adequate for an MX athlete- at least during the season. Funny thing is, I actually have seen the most results since switching to the Phase 3 diet at day 61. Now on Day 123.

Keep Bringing it Kim!!! It's gonna change your life!!!!
