Top 10 Fitness Gifts for Motocross

by Racer X Virtual Trainer

Santa is making his list and checking it twice. If you are into training and love being the fittest rider in your class, then I would recommend giving the following list to your mom, dad, girlfriend, brother, sister and dog. We all need help with gift ideas, so skillfully slide this list under the nose of someone shopping for you and hope for the best. Tell them I sent you and it's okay to give the gift of fitness. In no particular order here are my top 10 fitness gifts for the motocross athlete.....

Number 1: Rokform Smartphone Case

To say I love this case is an understatement. The only time my precious iPhone comes out of this case is when I'm running in the rain or out on the boat. Then I rely on my trusty Lifeproof case (it's waterproof). But for every day use and when I'm running, cycling, or mountain biking in good weather, I prefer the Rokform. The mounting system is nothing short of genius allowing me to mount my phone on my bike, in my car, and even on the wall in my garage. The case also comes with a magnet which allows the phone to "mount" to any metal surface like your tool box. I've seen Jeremy McGrath tweeting about his Rokform and from the pic above, it's obvious Johnny O'Mara is into the case as well. Great minds think alike! Buy Here

Number 2: TRX Pro suspension Training Kit

If you know anything about the Virtual Trainer site, you know that I love the TRX. Coach Seiji and I think so highly of the TRX that we've created complete workouts that utilize nothing but the TRX in the strength portion of the premium training plans. If you travel for work or chose to train at home, the TRX is your weapon of choice. Able to accommodate over 100 different body-weight exercises, the TRX is ultra-portable, making it an ideal addition to your suitcase. The kit includes indoor and outdoor anchors as well as video instruction to help you take your riding fitness to a new level. Read Coach Seiji's review here. Buy Here

Number 3: iON Camera Air Pro™ 3 Wi-Fi

The iON camera was a new addition to the lineup at the recent AIMExpo in Orlando. I spent some time getting to know these guys and they seem to have what it'll take to compete with market leader, GoPro. The camera is light and easy to use and what sets it apart is its unique ability to SHOOT in High Definition and SHARE in Real Time. That's cool by any ones standards. Camera is super simple to use and mounts to just about everything. This product is #1 on my Christmas wish list. Other notable cameras in this arena are GoPro, JVC Adixxium, RePlay XD (even comes in a Brian Deegan and Trey Canard editions), and the brand new Garmin VIRB (you know these guys are cool since their opening shot on the website is MX). Number 4: Premium Training Plans

How can you pass up a deal like this? For $19.95 per month you become a member of an exclusive interactive training community where you receive monthly periodized strength and cardiovascular training plans that are built based on the number of hours you have available to ride and train. No more guessing or going through the arduous process of developing something on your own. All programming is developed using the same principles and philosophies Coach Seiji uses to train Andrew Short, Jason Anderson, and Jimmy Albertson. For 20 bucks a month that's the best bargain in motocross. And the first month is free so you have nothing to lose. So do the right thing this Christmas and give your favorite rider the gift of fitness! Buy Here

Number 5: Rumble Roller

Who doesn't enjoy a deep massage? Get one daily—sans the expensive price tags and lavender-scented oil—with a Rumble Roller. This foam roller has raised nubs that penetrate deeper into your muscles than conventional rollers, easing knots and increasing range of motion. Use it before and after a workout to boost performance and accelerate muscle repair. Not familiar with myofascial release (deep tissue massage)? Check out this Virtual Trainer article. Buy Here

Number 6: Push Up Bar

Everyone knows strong core muscles are essential in motocross. If you have a weak core, you might as well stay in the pits. I love push-ups and incorporate them into just about every workout but the traditional push-up does a poor job at working the core muscle group. That is until you add imbalance to the equation. The unique rock-and-roll platform on the VT pushup bar provides the needed imbalance to engage your core muscles and help you develop the strength needed to maintain proper riding form until the checkers drop. Combine this with the Indo Balance board and you have a killer combination of strength and balance. Buy Here

Number 7: The Kettle Clamp

In a former life I was an engineer and the first thing that struck me about the Kettleclamp was its ingenuity. It's apparent the first time you use this tool that it was well thought out and very easy to use. Turn any set of dumbbells into a set of kettlebells in a matter of seconds. It literally takes 3-5 seconds to attach and unattach the device. If you've always wanted to add kettlebells to your routine but couldn't afford the added expense of a full set of kettlebells, then this is your answer. Buy Here

Number 8: Heart Rate Monitor

Take your training to the next level with a heart rate monitor. Incorporating heart rate data into your training plan is the only way to know if you're hitting your marks when it comes to periodized cardio training. There is a reason why all the pros wear those funny looking chest straps. If you've never purchased a HR monitor the choices can seem overwhelming. But never fear, VT has your back. We recommend sticking with either a Polar or Garmin and only offer what we think are the best choices for motocross in the VT Online store. Buy Here

Number 9: Risk Racing Start Gate

In golf, the saying is "Drive for show, putt for dough." The motocross equivalent is, "Jump for show, start for dough." But like putting in golf, riders don't spend nearly enough time practicing starts. Getting a holeshot is easy right? ...Wrong, but most races are won and lost at the drop of the gate, so perfecting your starting technique is key to any rider who wants to be on the podium (Jeff Emig reminds us of this before every supercross :). Improve your reaction time and learn to control power out of the gate and into the first corner with the Risk Racing Holeshot Race Gate. The “Holeshot” is a completely random timed, electronic, wireless, practice starting gate. This innovative product allows riders to independently practice their starts. When the rider presses the wireless remote button mounted on their crossbar pad, it will activate a computer controlled timing sequence which will drop the gate randomly. Buy Here

Number 10: Freelap MX Timer Kit

Racing is all about being fast and there is no way to know if your lap times are getting faster unless you are being timed. Having someone at the track with a stop watch and pit board in hand isn't always the most practical setup. This is where the Freelap timer kit comes into play. Freelap is the perfect tool for dropping your lap time with instant feedback shown right on your crossbar pad. A large, bold display allows you to view your previous lap time by quickly glancing down at your crossbar pad. The Freelap MX Timer Kit is a portable fully automated electronic timing system designed for motocross and all terrain vehicles. Buy Here
