Going to the petting zoo with the kids or grandkids? Many barnyard animals carry E. coli. Keep everyone safe by using hand sanitizer.
Petting zoos are full of cute and cuddly creatures, but they’re also rife with germs. A recent E. coli outbreak in Britain that sent 27 people, many of them children, to the hospital underscores the importance of proper hygiene at petting zoos. Many perfectly healthy-looking farm animals like cows and goats are E. coli carriers. Besides keeping your kids away from animal excrement, make sure they keep their hands away from their face and wash thoroughly after the petting and feeding are done.
