Don’t get tripped up by poorly tied sneakers. Running with loose laces puts more strain on your feet.

Decrease your risk of a running injury by making sure your shoes are tied tightly. Running in untied or loosely tied shoes can cause the feet to move around and put more stress on them. A study in the Journal of Sports Sciences shows that people who lace all the way up — and tightly — may be able to reduce their risk of lower limb injury. According to orthopedic surgeon Mark Brinker, MD, ill-fitting shoes are often an underlying factor in overuse injuries.
