Favorite lap timers everyone? not so easy to talk one of my riding buddies into sitting around and taking lap times of me. Was thinking of a GPS version, but they're kinda pricey. Thought about using a GPS lap timer app from my iphone, but where do I safely stash my phone and not risk getting it damaged (it's my work phone)...fanny pack maybe? Guess there's always the old school push button LSP style timers...

I think you will find that all of the trainers on this site still to take lap times the old fashioned way. With a hand held stop watch. If you do a quick Google search on Motocross lap timers, there are a few that look like they would do a nice job. Good luck and if you want, what ever you buy, write a short review and I'll post it for everyone to see on the website!

No trainer in my corner of the ring! I used the Powerstart lap timer in the past, and that one was pretty cool, although a little bulky being mounted on the front fender. It id make riding more fun though, you'd get a green light if your lap was faster than your previous, and a red light if slower. I may check out one of the bar pad mounted lap timers...I have an AIM 4 input unit for handheld timing, maybe I need to bring the wifey out and put her to work!

There are several options, but the most accurate is using one of the Garmin systems that allows you to download your data and review on your computer. Though this doesn't provide you lap times on your pit board, it does provide you feedback relevant to each lap time, average heart rate, max heart rate, etc.

Yeah, I know I should have bought the garmin 305 or 405 instead of the Polar RS300 I just picked up...My pal Stapletion got the 405 and was showing me laps and HR info from a Saturday REM race a couple of weeks ago...

I have the Garmin 405 with the bezel function and I HATE that watch. Love that it works but the bezel is a horrible design. Try adjusting the watch with just the slightest moisture on your finger or watch what happens during a workout when you get sweat on the watch. It's like having a corvette engine in an Pinto. I'm not familiar with the Polar RS300.

but that 305 is such a beast! that's what turned me off of the 305, then I read that the 405's bezel sucked as you mentioned...

The 305 is a beast but it is actually quite comfortable to wear. It looks so large b/c it is flatter than most. Plus, I am pretty sure it has better reception b/c of the design (at least I think so). I have my riders strap it to their Leatte or the back of their chest protector.
