Hey guys,
I'm researching getting into the Heart Rate Training side of my riding and was just looking for some opinions on Heart Rate Monitors but I'm not in a position to spend $400.00+ on a monitor. I bought a cheap one online a few months ago for my gym workouts and it works for that but when i went riding with it on it didn't seem to work so well. I am looking for something to record average and max heart rate. If there are other features for getting started any input is welcome. :)

Thanks,

Ryan

Check out the Garmin and Polar watches on the Virtual Trainer online store. Depending on your budget the Garmin Forerunner 110 and FR70 are good choices.

Do those include a chest strap? Or do they not require one?

Chest strap included and yes, they all need one.

The very minimum function you need other than the obvious display of current heart rate is the average heart rate over the recording period so that you can have accurate data from heart rate zone tests. After that, the important function to me are average velocity or speed of the activity over the time period (so that you can tell if your work output is going up or down).

So do the suggested models record the average heart rate?
