Hey All,
I've been training hard but not rushing things and having great results until about 3 wks back when I seemed to get a little run down after a race and maybe a slightly dehydrated since then I have struggled with my legs feeling weak on runs and aching even when i've not trained.
I don't feel i'll or anything I just seemd to be lacking when I train, my motivation is as high as ever so don't think i'm over training so i'm trying to get my body back on an even keal and was looking at some Hydration drinks just to help my recovery alittle better after training and racing as I've been using Gatorade as I always have but feel it's nolonger giving everything I need.....Anyway my question is :- Aspartame?, is this something I should be looking to avoid as I've been told it's not great for atheletes but so many hydration drinks and supplements contain it i'm a little confused.

Please help, thanks :) .

Hi Kim,
No I have avoided it because of what I've heard, always read the ingredients before buying anything.

Thanks :)

Hi Tim,
cheers for that :), The main reason I asked was that i'm looking for something better than Gatroade as a recovery - re-hydration drink but alot seem to contain Aspartame but after reading the article and other things i've read about it I think I will try and find one without it in as Gatorade actually removed it from their drink a year or so ago.

Thanks Again :)

Your other option is to make recovery and re hydration drinks yourself! It's not rocket science and you can control the ingredients. I'm sure if you Google it, you will find all kinds of recipes.

Happy to hear you have decided against consuming the aspartame. I have personally had trouble with it. The government and the American Dietetic Assciation say it's safe but I disagree. If you want more information you can check This site as well... http://Www.cspinet.org

Also, I really like Endurox R4, which is a recovery drink made by pacific health labs.

Chocolate milk is a decent recovery drink as well so long as it doesn't upset your stomach.

As far as feeling weak during your runs, pre workout nutrition is important as well. You may want to check out the articles on RacerXVT on the subject.

Hi Kim,
Many thanks for your input, I have actually found what looks like a really good Hydration recovery drink which does not contain Aspartame so looking to go for that option instead of my old faithful Gatorade and hoping to see an improvement.

As for my legs getting tired which really baffled me as my legs are usually solid and they get me through my runs when the rest of my body is screaming NOoooo! Lol but after suddenly coming down with a very bad cough and cold that everyone hear seems to have I just think it was that creeping up on me :(

So i've had a week off training, went riding for the first time yesterday and starting feel alot better so hoping to start training again this coming week.

Thanks Again,

:)

You are welcome :-) What's the drink you found? Please be sure and post to let me know how you like the drink and how your legs feel.

Hi Tim,
This is the drink I found and I will report back as to how it performs :)

Image

Isostar Hydrate & Perform Drink provides your body with the carbohdyrates and fluids it needs to perform at it's best. During periods of intense exercise, fluid is excreted from the body quickly leading to dehydration while increased energy output leads to feelings of fatigue and a need for longer recovery time. With Isostar Hydrate & Perform Drink you can help to reduce recovery time and ensure that your body performs at it's very best!

Hydrate & Perform powder is an isotonic drink mix for exercise to meet hydration needs. It contains carbohydrates and sodium for dual action: Good rehydration - the isotonic formula allows faster hydration and better gastric draining. So it helps to improve performance and endurance, and avoids muscular injuries. - An excellent source of energy: a scientific study proved that the Hydrate & Perform drink improved performance by 19% (compared to a placebo).

Ingredients
Reconstituted product: water, carbohydrates (sucrose, dehydrated glucose syrup, maltodextrin), acidifier: citric acid, sodium citrate, sodium chloride, potassium chloride, anti-oxidant: ascorbic acid, emulsifier: modified starch, copra vegetable oil, vitamin B1.
