Last year I did a 24 hour race in Alabama in the Ironman class (Solo). I rode about an hour to an hour and a half and then would rest 15-30 minutes. During the race I drank Endurox Excel and I would eat one GU pack about every hour. On my breaks I would drink water and eat fruit. About 13 hours into the race my stomach was not feeling good. I had a hard time eating anything due to my sick feeling, so I had to take a 3 hour break (and sleep). I then rode my "schedule" the rest of the time, but couldn't tolerate anything but water. Amazingly I didn't cramp and wasn't dying at the end, but I didn't feel well to say the least and my pace was much slower. I am pretty lean (about 10% body fat) and don't think I had much to burn during the event.

Well, it is getting close to that race again and I was wondering what I might could do (nutritional) to help my endurance. I will be riding with one partner this year, so I will have more time to eat and rest...but not much (if we want to win).

I hear about ultramarathon runner eating cheese pizzas and stuff during races....any thoughts? I definitely think I need more in my stomach than just Endurox, Gu, and Bananas/oranges (and a few peanut butter crackers).

Thanks!

Read this article from a fellow competitor who competed in the 24 hours of Glen Helen. See if it helps.
