Hi guys,

I am stuck working in South Korea for the next 9 months so no racing for me so i am just training until i can get back on a bike in January. At the moment i am doing lots of base training (low intensity zone 1) running and cycling and strength work with weights in the gym. As i have a good work schedule i am able to train twice a day in my time off.

In Korea we mostly eat rice here. Usually twice a day in fact. I was just wondering how eating so much rice will affect my diet given that it is a carbohydrate and i am doing low intensity work outs at the moment. SHould i try to eat something else? It would be possible i guess, but foriegn foods are VERY expensive here. I do try to cook pasta and can also get potatoes here. Any thoughts would be most welcome! Once again thanks for your help in advance.

Best wishes,

James

Well pasta and potatoes is just carbohydrates as well. I would look for natural sources of fats; you are training to become efficient at metabolizing fats so you need to also work on providing that fuel to your body via your diet. You should be able to get plenty of fish there, you can even specifically go for the fatty fish since that fat source is the Omega 3 type.

Can you eat Brown Rice instead of white? The carbs are the same, but brown rice overall is a healthier grain to eat.
