That is really subject to the extent of the damage, the type of graft/surgery, the personal healing rates and what your doctor recommends. I am sure Dr. Augustine can give you way, way more information than what I know. What I do know from experience is sooner you start physcial therapy and the better you are at sticking to the PT program and schedule, the better the outcome.

Just in my experience as a trainer, I have recieved riders post therapy and they were released to start training anywhere from 12 weeks post surgery to 20 weeks post surgery. Some of the riders were clear to ride motocross (limited activity, turn tracks, etc. just riding in the pasture stuff like that). I have had riders actually riding motocross between 16 weeks and 24 weeks post surgery.

Again, I am sure this is dependent on the above things and the doctor's personal thoughts and recommendations. Always trust the doctors and their staff! They have the most experience and insight into your injury.

The surgeon gave me a new ligament between the two bones, just like a new piece of rope! pretty clever really what they can do. But i was bummed when he said 9 months off the bike, but i see footballers come back from the same injury a lot sooner, maybe they just take the risk.

Just remember that when you hear of Ricky Carmichael, James Stewart, or a professional football athlete coming back sooner than expected from an injury it is usually because those people have full time trainers, doctors, PT's and nothing else to do but rehab and train. For us "normal" people recovery will take a bit longer. Plus those athletes were most likely in better shape to begin with which has a lot to do with recovery times. Anyway, just something to keep in mind......
