I'm just starting and I'm inclinded to build my cardio first before starting with weights. Is this OK?

So far I've taken 1 spin class and spent 1 day on an elliptical (running hurts my knees). Is it OK to do this every day until I can build a base? Alternating elliptical with spin classes?

Thanks,

Shaun

Yes, if you are just coming off the couch it is best to slowly build with lower intensity workouts. Every day is fine as long as you stay energized and feel like you are not over doing it. For people coming straight off the couch the most important thing to remember is you cannot get all of your fitness back in a few months. Moderation and CONSISTENCY is key to any program especially a new program. Yu may want to look into the premium training program we offer on the site. It is a great way to have all of your workouts emailed to you each day and the best part is it starts with the idea in mind that the user is starting from scratch. The cost is $20 bucks per month and the first month is free. All the guess work is removed and you will know exactly what to do. Give it a try and let me know what you think!

Tim,

I am considering that. I have access to an elliptical, spin class, tread mill and stationary bike. Don't have access to a rower or TRX system.

A little concerned with running as it huts my knees (they may get better as I get in better shape).

I'm more of a Hare Scrambles rider (2 hrs) and plan to ride some moto here an there.

Am I missing anything that would hamper my ability to follow the Premium program (I'll need to get a hear rate monitor)? You're sure this program isn't too agressive for an "off the couch" guy?

Thanks,

Shaun

Definitely do not think it is too aggressive. The first month is free with no obligation to continue so you have nothing to lose by giving it a try.

With the premium training you have three cardio choices and two strength training choices. With cardio you can either run, cycle, or row and incorporating the elliptical would be very similar to a stationary bike. With strength training you can either chose to use free weights at a gym or purchase a TRX for home use. Regarding a HR monitor. It is not required but a recommended piece of equipment. So you can get by without one.

As you get into better shape and move into the later months of the program, we can tweak the workouts to better suite 2-hour races. There are a few other Hare Scramble type riders who have already joined the community so you all can share experiences and "train" together!
